A Great Prayer

July 6, 2008 · 1 Comment

This weekend, my good friend Pastor Scott Claunch shared a great message about what is normally called the Lord’s Prayer. The title of his teaching was “Declaration of Dependance”. He shared how we have a loving Heavenly Father that we can depend upon and pray to.

My daughter is learning to pray. She, for a long time, has prayed before meals and before bed time. Typically, it’s a repeated type of prayer - “Thank you for Mommy, Daddy, Caleb, and the food, Amen.:

But recently my wife, Janet, taught her to think before she prays. Her prayer yesterday before breakfast went something like this: “Lord, help Caleb to obey, help me to obey, thank you for Mommy, for Daddy, thank you for the food. I pray for baby Emma. Amen.” There was more to it than that - but it was incredible!

There has been a marked improvement in her prayer life. Oh what a wonderful thing that she can have a direct relationship with God! How God must smile at the prayers of His children!

I once heard it said that when we get to heaven we will look back at our lives on earth and marvel at how little we prayed.

Pastor Chuck Smith once said, “Prayer is the deciding factor in spiritual warfare.”

Thank you Lord for the gift of prayer.

Jesus taught us that prayer is the way to go to Father’s heart. Jesus, in fact, is the way to the Father. I know the power of prayer.
